Are you considering becoming a Work at Home Mom (WAHM)? The key to being a successful WAHM is to find your passion. Sounds simple, right? It is not as easy as it sounds. Having your own business is not for the weak and faint of heart, especially if you are a mom at home with preschool and school age children. It takes time to build, it takes time to see monetary returns, and it takes such a degree of dedication that if you do not have passion in the mix, your efforts will be in vain. Obviously it takes more than just passion to run a business from home, but if you lack passion it really doesn’t matter what else you do. You can read every business book out there, take as many online courses as you can, yet the odds are you will fail. Why? Being a WAHM is not easy. Obviously, being a mom at home, your children and your family are your top priority. They come first. This means fitting in your business when you can. It may mean working long nights after you have already put in a full day of work caring for your family. It may mean getting up a few hours earlier than you are used to so that you can get in a few hours of quiet time. It means adding more tasks to your already overwhelming to do list. It means working harder than you ever have in your life, and in the beginning not making any or very little money to reflect your efforts. Whether you are considering owning and operating your own company, or debating about selling products for an affiliate company, you can be successful. The most successful people are those that follow their hearts and believe in what they do. You must be willing to sow the seeds for success with grit, determination and gumption. As with most things in life, you will reap what you sow. If you are merely in business to make money, you will never be as successful as you could be. Passion fuels us, motivates us, and inspires us. Passion is what separates the dreamers from the doers. Passion leads to action. I am not saying that the bottom line is not important. Making a profit is indeed a valid reason for taking on such a huge and demanding task as running a business. What I am saying is that if money is all that motivates you, your potential will be limited, and your business will more than likely fail. The reality is, most home businesses do not see a profit during the first year. Again, let me stress, you reap what you sow. If you are expecting instant results, or you buy into the get rich quick schemes you are destined for failure. Does having passion mean you will never have set backs and make mistakes? Of course not! It does mean that when these things happen, you are more motivated to pick yourself up, and try and try again. We each have one life. It is such a precious gift. Why waste it being mediocre, living with what ifs, living in fear and making excuses as to why you cannot follow your heart and make your dreams a reality? If becoming a WAHM is your personal dream, you are willing to work hard, have patience and passion you can make this your reality. Exercise Are you considering becoming a WAHM? The first step is to determine your own personal passion. Make a list of at least 10 things you are passionate about. Next month I will share with you successful business ideas to help you get started!
